How High Pressure Die Casting Works
High pressure dies casting at a rapid rate facilitates the production of castings in economical quantity. These castings are characterized by high dimensional accuracy and good surface finish and can comprise of various holes, screw threads, recesses. They require little or no surface finishing and enable a good economy of metal. Pressure die casting by die casting part supplier is based on consisting of forcing molten metal into a mold or the die that to under considerable pressure. Machines used for this purpose operate on one or two systems:
Hot Chamber Machines (for metals with a low melting point)
Cold Chamber Machines (for metals with a high melting point)
In the hot chamber machines, the metal is kept in liquid form that too in a crucible inside the machine, and the pressure chamber is located in the metal bath that delivers the metal into the die. This machinery can be pneumatically operated or by the action of ram, they usually develop the pressure. In a holding furnace, the pressure die casting part for a cold chamber machine is kept liquid, from which it is transferred to the pressure chamber, using a scoop or a special automatic device and is forced into the die by the means of a ram.
In pressure die casting, precision-made dies of intricate multipart design and very expensive ones are used and are exposed to severe working conditions in high pressures and high successive variations in temperature.
Vacuum die casting is another development in high pressure dies casting. Compared to ordinary high-pressure castings it produces castings which have an even better finish. The aerospace dies casting part is very popular. There are two systems, the die is either enclosed in a hood which evacuates the air, or under the casting machine the holding furnace is installed, so that the metal is sucked into the die on the evacuation of the air from the die and is compacted in it, and based on this principle a process for making iron castings has been developed.
